Wrinkle Softening

Botox is the material used to minimise the appearance of worry lines, crows feet, laughter lines and other wrinkles. These wrinkles occur when we smile, laugh or frown, and the delicate muscles underlying the skin contract. Botox is injected into the muscles and works by weakening these small facial muscles precisely. Following treatment, the overlying skin remains smooth and wrinkle free while untreated muscles contract normally, allowing facial expression to remain unaffected.

Botox injections have been safely and effectively used for over 10 years. Thousands of injections are performed each year and Botox is an exciting treatment for fighting the visible signs of ageing.

How are Botox injections performed?

Botox injections are a simple, safe and effective procedure. A very small amount of Botox is injected with a very fine needle into several locations in the face. Because the needle is so fine and only a tiny amount of liquid is used, there is minimal pain associated with the injections. No sedation or local anaesthetic is required, and you can drive and engage in all of your normal daily activities immediately after your injections. You may have slight temporary bruising of the skin at your injection sites, but otherwise, there will be no visible signs that you have had treatment.

Are there any side effects?

The risk of side effects depends on the muscles injected and because Botox is completely reversible, any side effects are temporary, usually only lasting a number of days.

What kind of results can I expect?

Results with Botox injections will help in maintaining a more youthful appearance. However, this procedure will not improve the more common static wrinkles that are unrelated to facial contraction.

Early results from clinical trials suggest that the duration of benefits increases with time so that you may require injections less frequently in the future, but this will vary from person to person. The effects from Botox treatment will be apparent 3-4 days after the injection and will last up to 3-4 months.

Treatment is available at the following clinics: Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, St Albans, The Strand (London), Uxbridge, Watford.
