A key component for beautiful looking skin.

Healthy skin contains important components that keep it looking supple and youthful. One of these is hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural sugar found in all living cells that helps maintain skin volume by attracting and binding over 1000 times its weight in water. However, over time, sunlight and other factors can cause the hyaluronic acid in your skin to diminish. Your skin loses volume and lines and wrinkles begin to appear. You can temporarily replace your skin's lost hyaluronic acid using Hydrafill® gel. Hydrafill is a dermal filler made from a highly purified form of hyaluronic acid that mimics the effects of natural hyaluronic acid.

When injected just below the surface of the skin, Hydrafill adds volume to the skin, smoothing unwanted lines and wrinkles. Hydrafill provides immediate, natural looking results. Treatment and recovery normally take as little as one hour. Hydrafill can be used to smooth the lines between the nose and mouth and also to create fuller more luscious lips.

With time, Hydrafill gradually breaks down and is naturally reabsorbed by your body and touch-up treatments are recommended two or three times a year to maintain optimal correction.

What is Hydrafill gel

Approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in April 2004, this dermal filler adds volume to your skin by mimicking the skin's natural hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural sugar found in all living cells that attracts and binds water to hydrate the skin and give it volume.

Hydrafill provides immediate results and does not require a pre-treatment skin test.

Frequently asked questions
Although this information will not take the place of a consultation with your physician, it should answer some of the questions you may have about Hydrafill® gel.

1.  What causes wrinkles?
The way your skin looks is directly related to the way your skin is supported. Wrinkles form when the natural collagen and hyaluronic acid in your skin diminish during the course of ageing. Other factors that cause wrinkles include exposure to the sun, disease, injury, heredity and lifestyle. Collagen provides skin structure while hyaluronic acid provides volume to your skin.

2.  What is hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a natural sugar. It is found in the human body in the skin, cartilage, joints and the eyes. In skin tissue, hyaluronic acid fills the space between collagen and elastin fibers. The role of hyaluronic acid in skin is to deliver nutrients, to hydrate the skin by holding in water and to act as a cushioning agent.

3.  What is Hydrafill?
Hydrafill is a dermal filler made of chemically modified hyaluronic acid. It is chemically, physically and biologically similar in the tissues of all species. Hydrafill is made from highly purified natural hyaluronic acid that is gradually absorbed by your body through natural mechanisms.

4.  What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are substances that are injected just below the surface of the skin temporarily adding volume and/or structure, thereby filling lines, wrinkles and folds from the inside out. Dermal fillers can temporarily restore a smoother appearance.

5.  What is Hydrafill used for?
Hydrafill is injected into skin tissue for correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds in the skin.

6.  How does Hydrafill work?
Hydrafill is injected just beneath the skin's surface temporarily adding volume to the layers of the skin that have deteriorated due to age and other factors. Hydrafill, when injected, is used to raise depressions in the skin, providing temporary correction of wrinkles and folds.

7.  Is a pre-treatment skin test required?
No. You can receive Hydrafill the same day as your initial consultation or office visit.

8.  Do the injections hurt?
In general, injections may cause some discomfort. Hydrafill is injected directly into the skin using a fine needle to reduce injection discomfort. Physicians may choose to anesthetise or numb the treatment area to further minimise discomfort.

9.  Is the product safe?
Yes. The primary ingredient in Hydrafill is hyaluronic acid, which is a component of skin. Hydrafill has undergone extensive testing including scientific clinical trials to establish its safety and effectiveness. Hydrafill was approved in April 2004 for injection into the skin for correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

10.  Can anyone be treated with Hydrafill?
Your physician will ask about your medical history, including allergies, to determine if you are an appropriate candidate for treatment.

11.  Do I need time off work to recuperate?
Hydrafill is a simple procedure. Most patients feel comfortable resuming their normal activities immediately following treatment. Temporary puffiness of the treated areas, however, should be expected. As with any injection, you may also notice temporary redness, slight bruising and tenderness around the treatment sites. You are free to eat, drink, or wear make-up or sunblock shortly after treatment.

12.  What areas can be treated with Hydrafill?
The most common areas treated are the smile lines around your nose and mouth, lines at the corners of your mouth, frown lines between the eyes and fine lines above the mouth.

13.  How often will I require treatment?
To maintain optimal correction, touch-up injections are usually needed two or three times a year. Everyone's skin is different which is why the timing of any additional treatment varies from person to person. Over time, Hydrafill will be absorbed by your body, which is why you may want on-going treatments. If you choose not to continue with treatment, any remaining Hydrafill is simply absorbed by your body over time and your skin gradually returns to its natural shape. Your physician can work with you to develop a treatment plan that is right for you.

14.  Without touch-up injections, how will my skin look?
Correction will reduce gradually until your skin looks like it did before treatment with Hydrafill. Touch-up injections will help you maintain correction of the skin surface.

15.  How are Hydrafill treatments different from Botox Cosmetic?                   Botox is a protein that is injected into muscles to relax them, smoothing lines and wrinkles caused by repeated facial movements. In contrast, Hydrafill is a dermal filler that is injected just below a wrinkle in order to fill it in, smoothing the surface of the skin.

16.  How are Hydrafill treatments different from collagen treatments?
Hydrafill temporarily adds volume to your skin by mimicking the hydrating effects of your skin's natural hyaluronic acid. Collagen treatments replenish your skin's lost collagen, restoring skin structure giving you a more youthful look.

17.  Can I get treatment with more than one filler?
There is an emerging trend to use collagen and hyaluronic acid-based fillers in combination to temporarily replace lost structure and volume, smoothing away unwanted lines and wrinkles.

18.  Who can inject Hydrafill?
Hydrafill can be injected by a physician, such as a dermatologist or plastic surgeon or a qualified health care professional, such as a registered nurse or physician assistant.

19.  How long does the procedure take?
Treatment and recovery with Hydrafill usually takes less than one hour.

20.  Can I have more than one area treated at the same time?
Yes, more than one area can safely be injected at the same time.

21.  How so I know if a dermal filler is what I need?
To help determine if a dermal filler is right for you, perform a simple stretch test. Pull your skin tight on either side of the wrinkle you want to test, this will allow you to assess the potential for optimal treatment capability. If the line/wrinkle goes away when the skin is pulled tight, then full correction may be achieved. Keep in mind that if you can still see a line when you pull the skin, your physician will be able to smooth the area and fill in the wrinkle, but you may still see the line.

22.  How much do the treatments cost?
Pricing varies depending on the number and types of areas being treated, the amount of filler material required to achieve the desired results and the physician administering the treatment. Typically treatments are priced competitively with other injectable wrinkle correction procedures.

23.  What should I find out before I have any type of medical cosmetic treatment?
Is the product approved by the FDA?
Who is performing the treatment?
Do they have the proper training and credentials?
When do you want to see results?
Where are your problem areas?
